I’m Olivia Townshend, and I am honoured and delighted to have been asked to be part of the Melbourne Arboretum team.

I grew up on a small farm on the Mornington Peninsula, and now live in Richmond, Melbourne. I work as a graphic designer and director of a creative studio. For the nature of my work, and my wellbeing - my surrounds are extremely important – I notice my energy and creativity deplete when I go too many days without exposure to mother nature in some way.

The Melbourne Arboretum will be a place of regeneration and beauty – where we can be amongst the gentle power of eucalypts, and really appreciate nature and what it offers us. A short drive from the city – this vast site will hold many meaningful offerings for its visitors. A chance to learn about and pay respect to Indigenous Australia – in particular the culture and history of the Mernda region. A chance to reconnect with oneself through connection with nature. A chance to extend one’s knowledge around our native plant life. A chance to explore, learn and give back to our great planet.

Reforestation is a wonderful and significant way to do our part to slow the effects of climate change. The heart of the Melbourne Arboretum is trees – planting a variety of wonderful eucalyptus trees that will stand for years to come, and help balance carbon dioxide levels, while providing habitats and contributing to a new, thriving ecosystem for this large pocket of land.

So please, get in touch if you are interested in becoming involved. We call on feedback, volunteers and participation of all kinds. We are so excited to share the next phases of this beautiful project. Many thanks to Maggie and Hamish McDonell for their vision.

Until next time,

Olivia
