The highlight of my week as one of the Melbourne Arboretum team members was being invited to sit in on the students stage 1 thesis presentations at the Melbourne University Design School. The students visited the Melbourne Arboretum site in Mernda 4 weeks ago and listened to Maggie McDonell give a briefing on the history of the land, as she outlined the vision 2 plan.  It was fabulous listening to all the students present with great enthusiasm and passion for their work.  A few of the many exciting ideas mentioned were glamping, planting trees in patterns and edible gardens.  There is so much to consider with this design - with challenging soil and the hard conditions we have here in this area.

We would like to thank Fiona Johnson, the tutor for the Landscape Architecture Design Studio at Melbourne University. She has worked very closely with the students to achieve the outcome to date.
